My Photos: Other People's Aquariums
(The First Tank Guide)
A healthy - and interested - adult jack Dempsey ("Cichlasoma" octofasciatum). These fish get fairly large and can be quite aggressive, but they also will interact with their owners (and that can be very rewarding).

"Thanks again Keith! That was exactly what I needed to know. By the way, I think your site is the most informative and comprehensive that I have found. Before I found it, I was getting confusing and conflicting information from other sites, and sometimes it just didn't even make logical sense or was just plain wrong. Thanks for taking the time to put it all together in a logical and easy to read format."

"I just wanted to say "thank you" for including a section about the cruelty of keeping painted fish. I never knew of such a thing until one summer when I was working at PetCo (college summer job) in the fish room. I didn't know much about fish then, I was just starting out, I loved the colors on the painted glass fish, but then a customer told me that it doesn't happen naturally, (which I figured, but didn't want to believe). I had no idea that is how they do it though. Plus, I thought the only species that was done to was glass fish, I had no idea that there were so many more species."
